your family. Our Founder and Medical Director, David C. Brown, M.D. F.A.C.S., leads a team of talented, caring
professionals who are at the forefront of emerging technologies.
Dr. Brown, who has practiced in Fort Myers for over 30 years, is among a select group of physicians invited to participate in national clinical trials of new surgical procedures. As a result, he is one of the most experienced ophthalmic surgeons in the country in procedures such as the crystalens® and ICL (implantable collamer lens).
By staying abreast of the newest options in eye care, the staff at Eye Centers of Florida can
recommend the treatment that will help you see and look your best.
A Full Spectrum of Services
The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends a complete eye exam every one to two years for those ages 65 and older, and every two to four years for ages 40 to 65. More frequent exams may be indicated for those with a history of eye injury, diabetes, or a family history of eye problems. At Eye Centers of Florida, we routinely screen for diseases of the eye and visual acuity (the need for corrective lenses). Some conditions, such as glaucoma, present no symptoms, so it’s important to schedule a check-up even it you’re experiencing no difficulty in seeing.
For those who need vision correction, your eye center in Florida is the Eye Centers of Florida. We provide full optical services (eyeglasses and contact lenses), with licensed opticians and an extensive selection of designer
eyewear. Your doctor also can discuss with you the surgical options that are available to reduce or
eliminate the need for corrective lenses.
Our doctors are specialists in the treatment of cataracts, macular degeneration, Dry Eye, and other
conditions that may threaten your eye health.
Surgical Options
Surgical vision correction has experienced a revolution since the approval of LASIK surgery in 1999.
Advancements in laser surgery have given birth to LASEK and Epi-LASIK. But the most exciting development has been the variety of intraocular lenses that are now available. These lenses either replace your natural lens (as in the case of cataract treatment) or are implanted in front of it to provide permanent vision correction. There are multifocal lenses (correcting both near and far vision), and lenses for the severely nearsighted.
Dr. Brown has pioneered the use of many of these products – such as crystalens® and the Implantable Collamer Lens – making Eye Centers of Florida the most experienced practice in the area. Our doctors are uniquely qualified to evaluate which procedure will achieve the best results for you.
The SurgiCare Center
Many of the procedures described in this website are outpatient surgeries. They can all be performed in our outpatient SurgiCare Center in Fort Myers. From pre-op to post-op, our staff will care for you with compassion and a high level of specialized expertise.
The SurgiCare Center is recognized nationally as a leader among ambulatory surgical centers, and is accredited by the Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
Clinical Studies
Eye Centers of Florida stays on the cutting edge of treatments by engaging in FDA Clinical Trials (research studies of medical devices and diseases of the eye). We are also a clinical investigation site for the evaluation of new diagnostic equipment.
Visit our Clinical Trials section to find out about current studies for which you may qualify, or call our study coordinator at 1.800.226.3377, ext. 3858 to express your interest in being considered for a future study.

Mobile Screening Bus
Traveling throughout Southwest Florida, our mobile screening bus conducts preliminary tests for visual acuity, glaucoma, macular degeneration and hearing. Although not a replacement for a full exam, these screenings are a convenient way to determine if you need further evaluation. Call your eye center in Florida - The Eye Centers of Florida to schedule a visit to your neighborhood. 239.275.1176 ext. 1250.
