Fort Myers Ophthalmologist to Compete in NYC Marathon in November

The New York City Marathon has become a premier event over the past 35 years, drawing up to 100,000 applicants annually, with only 35,000 selected to participate. The marathon includes runners from around the world, with an Opening Ceremony featuring a Parade of Nations and Inaugural Hall of Fame Presentation on Friday, November 4th, prior to the marathon on Sunday. The race extends through New York’s five boroughs: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan, across five bridges, finishing in world famous Central Park. More than 2 million spectators are expected to line the route and cheer the runners on to the finish line.

“It is very rewarding to have the privilege of participating in an event such as this,” said Dr. Ginsberg. “Not only does it provide an amazing physical challenge and sense of accomplishment, but this event will also provide the opportunity to support and raise awareness for worthy causes.”

Dr. Ginsberg’s run will go to support the “Lighthouse of Collier”, an organization in Collier County that works closely with the visually impaired in Southwest Florida. He will be donating all of his time and expenses related to training and the actual event. He is receiving no financial support, however, he hopes that his participation will increase awareness. In addition to his accomplishments in the world of running, Dr. Barrett Ginsberg has also gained a long list of awards and recognitions in the medical field, as one of the area’s top Ophthalmologists. These include numerous publications, certifications, and honors such as Resident of the Year and the Residency Selection Committee Delegate at the University of Florida Department of Ophthalmology.
