Patents Awarded to David C. Brown, M.D., Ophthalmic Surgeon
FORT MYERS, FL (Dec. 7, 2009) – Eye Centers of Florida is proud to announce that David C. Brown, M.D., F.A.C.S. has been awarded two patents for devices used in conjunction with cataract surgery. The patents were issued on Aug. 4, 2009 and on Oct. 6, 2009. These devices also received FDA approval in Oct. 2009.
The purpose of the devices is to eliminate the need for a secondary laser treatment, or capsulotomy, which frequently occurs after cataract surgery. This laser treatment is performed with a YAG laser.
The devices are used at the time of cataract surgery to treat the portion of the eye that may later become opacified, or cloudy. The use of the devices does not add to the complexity of cataract surgery and is expected to increase and enhance clear vision following lens implant surgery.
Eye Centers of Florida, founded by David C. Brown, M.D., in 1972, is a nationally recognized, progressive eye care center providing complete vision care to individuals throughout Southwest Florida.
