what are cataracts?

Your eyes contain a natural lens that lies just behind the pupil. This lens bends and focuses light to focus on the retina, which allows your brain to clearly process your surroundings as images. A cataract is the clouding or yellowing of your eye’s natural lens, making it difficult for light to pass through the eye and focus properly. The result is a gradual loss of the crisp, clear vision you once knew.

However, it isn't unusual for patients under 50 to develop cataracts associated with diabetes, certain medical conditions, family history, or sometimes, just sporadically.

A natural part of aging, they typically start to develop in our 50s, but they can start earlier. One in six people over age 40 has a cataract and people often develop cataracts due to diabetes, injury, various medical conditions and family history. Cataracts only worsen, as each day passes, so don’t wait to address the problem Some common symptoms of cataracts include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Double vision
  • Needing more lights to read
  • Fading or yellowing colors
  • Glare or light sensitivity
  • Poor night vision

How do i know

It's time for cataract surgery?

If you experience blurred or cloudy vision, difficulty seeing at night, increased sensitivity to glare, or changes in color perception, it may be time for cataract surgery. An eye doctor can evaluate your vision and the severity of your cataracts to determine if cataract surgery is necessary. As cataracts worsen over time, delaying surgery can lead to further vision loss.

ADVANCED IOL OPTIONS

Most patients have two choices when it comes to lens implants: standard lens implants or high-tech lens implants. Your cataract surgeon will make a recommendation based on your vision goals and the current anatomy and health of your eyes. However, ultimately, the decision will be up to you. Some of the advanced IOL options we offer include:

J&J Synergy

Symfony

Odyssey IOL

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CATARACT SURGERY?

Laser Cataract Surgery

Eye Centers of Florida is pleased to offer laser cataract surgery with Alcon's LenSx® laser. This laser revolutionizes cataract surgery with unparalleled precision and customization. This cutting-edge technology integrates computer control into crucial steps of the procedure, offering cataract patients the most advanced surgical option available.

No-Stitch Cataract Surgery

No-stitch cataract surgery offers quick recovery with reduced discomfort and improved vision without the need for stitches. By creating a small incision on the edge of the cornea, our cataract surgeons can remove the cataract and place the IOL without the need for stitches. The area will heal and seal naturally, reducing discomfort and irritation sometimes caused by stitches.

Topical, No-Needle Cataract Surgery

With topical anesthetics, you can now have cataract surgery without going under anesthesia. This method eliminates discomfort and anxiety associated with needles.
