Celebrating Ophthalmic Medical Technicians’ Week

Ophthalmic Medical TechnicianQuality eye care is a team effort. At ECOF, we like to recognize the contributions of all our team members, from the doctors to the technicians to the smiling faces that greet our customers at the front door.

That’s why we’re celebrating Ophthalmic Medical Technicians’ Week during November 3-9, 2013. What is an Ophthalmic Medical Technician, you ask? Good question!

An Ophthalmic Medical Technician is a person who works with an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) to provide patient care. They perform clinical tasks like taking medical histories, performing vision and diagnostic tests, assisting with procedures, and coordinating medications and schedules with patients.

It’s the third-fastest-growing occupation in the US, with over 3,500 additional positions currently needed in the US and Canada. With the population of Americans over 65 expected to double by 2030, the demand will likely increase further. (If you’re interested in a career at ECOF, be sure to check our current openings.)

So the next time you visit the eye doctor, say hello to your Ophthalmic Medical Technician. It’s because of these dedicated and talented people that we here at ECOF can deliver the excellent patient care you deserve.
