Medical Grade Chemical Peels

What is a Chemical Peel?

At The Aesthetic Center at Eye Centers of Florida, we want to help you obtain clear, beautiful, and healthy skin that makes you look and feel your very best. One of our most popular methods to improve our patients’ skin is with our medical-grade chemical peel treatments, which can improve a variety of skin conditions safely, quickly, and effectively.

Chemical peels are special solutions that use an acidic cleanser to exfoliate the outer layer of the skin, address unsightly skin blemishes, remove buildups of dead skin cells, and generally, help tired skin look refreshed and renewed. These treatments are used to improve the face, neck, or chest.

While some less powerful chemical peel solutions are sold over the counter for at-home use, the results pale in comparison to the results from medical grade treatments performed by trained professionals.

Different types of chemical peels work better for different skin care needs, and there are three groups by which medical grade chemical peels are categorized: superficial, medium, and deep.

Medical Grade Chemical Peel Levels

The level of peel you should use depends on multiple factors, including:

  • The texture of your skin
  • The skin condition you’re seeking to treat
  • The color of your skin
  • The elasticity of your skin
  • The amount of downtime your schedule allows

When you visit our Aesthetic Center in Fort Myers, our highly-trained staff, led by Board Certified Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeon Allison Bertram Yee, M.D., will help you determine which medical-grade chemical peel would best treat your skin.

Types of Chemical Peels

Superficial Chemical Peels

Superficial chemical peels are the lowest grade of chemical peel. This treatment helps smooth the top layer of skin and lessen dark spots or discoloration. These are short procedures that require little downtime.

Medium-Level Chemical Peels

Medium chemical peels are a more powerful treatment that addresses skin with sunspots, photodamage, acne scars, and more. Because this treatment offers a deeper cleanse, the resulting downtime may be around 5-7 days.

Low-grade Chemical Peel

Deep-Level Chemical Peels

Deep chemical peels are the most comprehensive level of chemical peel. Because these treatments can address more difficult-to-solve skin conditions, such as deep wrinkles and deeper dark spots, an M.D. will be present during application. While the recovery is longer, deep chemical peels deliver the best and longest-lasting results.

What Happens During a Medical Grade Chemical Peel?

Before beginning treatment, our staff will take special time and consideration in deciding which level of chemical peel will best suit your skin and beauty goals. We accomplish this using a comprehensive skin analysis.

Next, your skin will be prepped for treatment. We’ll remove all oil and makeup to ensure that your peel can do its job. One of our Fort Myers aesthetic experts will then apply protective ointment on areas around your nose, eyes, and mouth.

Once the chemical peel is applied, the solution will break down the outermost layers of your skin, which promotes the renewal of collagen. Once the acid neutralizes, the solution can simply be washed away. The duration that a chemical peel must stay on the skin depends on the strength of the peel used.

Depending on the level of peel applied, you may experience some “downtime” where you have to pay special attention to your skin and apply lotion and sunscreen as necessary.

What Are the Benefits of a Fort Myers Medical Grade Chemical Peel?

Medical grade chemical peels are a fantastic option for those who want to improve the look and feel of their skin. Because chemical peels are performed on an outpatient basis, they are fairly quick procedures that will have you back home the same day as treatment. They’re also usually a cheaper option for skin correction than laser facial treatments which offer similar results.

Chemical peels can address a variety of skin problems, including:

  • Acne
  • Blotchy skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Wrinkles
