The Power of TECNIS® IOLs

Protect Your Eyes During a Pandemic

During cataract surgery, the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear, intraocular lens (IOL). The same way the surgical technology and experience of the surgeon can make a major difference in the quality of your surgery, the IOL used can affect the procedure’s outcome.

At Eye Centers of Florida, we’re proud to provide our patients with options to customize their surgery with premium intraocular lenses (IOLs). Specifically, we offer various lenses from TECNIS® that can vastly improve both your post-cataract surgery vision and quality of life.

Why Choose TECNIS® IOLs?

TECNIS® IOLs are made out of the highest quality materials and use some of the most innovative lens designs available in the industry so that your cataract surgery doesn’t just restore your vision, it improves it!

Unlike many other IOL options, TECNIS® IOLs are constructed out of a material that reduces glistenings. Glistenings are small, clear, fluid-filled areas that form after an artificial lens is placed in the eye, and they can cause light to scatter, reducing vision contrast. IOLs from TECNIS® enhance vision so that patients can see life clearly, even in low-light conditions.

The TECNIS® Monofocal IOL

The TECNIS® Monofocal IOL is designed to provide patients with superior distance vision when compared to standard IOLs. This means that those who have their cataract replaced with this lens likely won’t have to wear glasses or contacts for clear distance vision. Patients who choose the TECNIS® Monofocal IOL are able to see objects in the distance clearly while avoiding the hassle of corrective eyewear.

This lens has also been shown to improve contrast sensitivity and color perception. In fact, compared to traditional lenses, the TECNIS® Monofocal IOL provides up to 31% improvement in contrast sensitivity in normal light conditions, and a 53% improvement in contrast sensitivity in low light conditions. With this lens, our patients can regain their confidence to perform activities at night, such as driving, and other outdoor activities.

The TECNIS® Toric IOL

Astigmatism is a common refractive error where the cornea or lens inside the eye is misshapen, causing blurry vision. Those who have an astigmatism have to wear glasses in order to see the world clearly, with the severity of their astigmatism depending on how misshapen their eye is.

If you have an astigmatism, then your eyes will require a special type of IOL (called a Toric IOL) if you want your cataract surgery to correct your vision. Toric IOLs can improve severe cases of astigmatism and minimize — or even eliminate — your need to wear glasses or contacts. We offer the TECNIS® Toric IOL, which is designed to correct corneal astigmatisms. This means that you likely won’t have to wear glasses in order to see objects in the distance clearly.

The TECNIS® Symfony IOL

While some patients choose an IOL that will correct their distance vision, others may want to correct every range of vision. From far, to intermediate, to close vision, those with the TECNIS® Symfony IOL will be able to see it all clearly.

This lens is so unique because it accounts for presbyopia, a common condition that develops in older people, causing their close-up vision to be blurry. While many people will have to use reading glasses to see nearby objects clearly as they age, the TECNIS® Symfony IOL provides post-cataract patients with improved near vision so that they likely won’t have to use eyewear at all.

The TECNIS® Symfony IOL is designed with achromatic technology, meaning that it gives the patient high visual contrast. This lens also comes in a Toric option, meaning that it can be used to provide those with astigmatism with a continuous range of clear vision.
